Gregory-Portland ISD Announces 2026 Accountability Ratings, Highlighting Continued Growth and Campus Success

Portland, TX — Gregory-Portland Independent School District (G-PISD) continues to demonstrate strong academic progress in the latest accountability ratings released by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), earning a B rating with an overall score of an 86 for 2026 and a total of 14 distinctions across the district. The latest results reflect continued growth across G-PISD and build upon the district’s progress in recent years. G-PISD improved across all major accountability measures, earning a score of 83 in Student Achievement, 85 in Academic Growth, 83 in Relative Performance, and 88 in Closing the Gaps. These results reflect the hard work of G-P educators, students, and families while reinforcing the district’s commitment to “educate, inspire, and empower.” 

G-PISD Superintendent Dr. Michelle Cavazos said the results reflect the district’s continued focus on growth and ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed. “As a district, we are focused on growth for every student, and these results demonstrate the progress taking place across G-PISD,” Dr. Cavazos said. “We are proud of how far we have come, but our work continues. We will build on what is working and remain focused on continued growth for every student.”

Several G-PISD campuses demonstrated significant progress in 2026, including Gregory-Portland High School, Gregory-Portland Middle School, and W.C. Andrews Elementary. Gregory-Portland High School earned a B rating with an overall score of 89 and one distinction, representing a 14-point increase since 2024. Gregory-Portland Middle School earned a B rating with an overall score of 87 and two distinctions, a 5-point increase since 2024. W.C. Andrews Elementary also demonstrated exceptional progress, earning a B rating with an overall score of 87, a 13-point increase since 2024, and all six distinctions.  

“The growth we have seen at Gregory-Portland High School, Gregory-Portland Middle School, and W.C. Andrews Elementary reflects the intentional work taking place across our campuses,” Dr. Cavazos said. “Our focus now is to build on that success by identifying the strategies and practices that are making the greatest impact and replicating them across our district. When we learn from one another and remain focused on continuous improvement, all of our students benefit.” 

Across the district, East Cliff Elementary earned a B rating with an overall score of 87 and three distinctions, T.M. Clark Elementary earned a B rating with an overall score of 84 and two distinctions, and S.F. Austin Elementary earned a C rating with an overall score of 77. Together, G-PISD campuses earned 14 distinctions in 2026, reflecting areas of strong academic achievement and continued progress across the district. 

The 2026 results continue an upward trajectory for G-PISD. Since 2023, the district has taken intentional, data-informed steps to strengthen instructional quality and improve student outcomes across its campuses. These efforts have included strengthened instructional coaching and feedback cycles for teachers; aligned written curriculum and instructional resources in K–8 reading and mathematics, including Algebra I; targeted interventions to address performance gaps; common planning time to support teacher collaboration; expanded dual-credit opportunities; increased access to Career and Technical Education programs; and College & Career Labs at the middle school level. 

Board President Tim Flinn said the continued improvement reflects the collective work taking place throughout G-PISD. “These results represent the dedication of our students, teachers, staff, campus leaders, and families,” Flinn said. “We are proud of the progress taking place across our district and remain committed to supporting our schools as they continue building on this success.” 

While accountability ratings are one measure of student and district success, G-PISD remains focused on continued growth and preparing every Wildcat for a successful future. 

“These results are about more than a rating or a number,” Dr. Cavazos said. “They reflect the growth of our students and the commitment of the people who serve them every day. We celebrate this progress while continuing to ask ourselves, ‘What’s next, and how do we keep getting better?’ That mindset will continue to drive our work as we educate, inspire, and empower every student.”
