WHAT GOES INTO MAKING SCHOOL MEALS?
Did you know that making school meals is more than just cooking the food? Each School District has Government, State AND District policies they have to follow in order to serve nutritious and delicious meals to your child. Each menu is carefully planned and executed to not only follow all of these policies, but also to be sure it has something appetizing to most (if not, ALL) children. Take a look at the graphic below to get an idea of just how much and how many people are involved in the process of providing food in schools for children.

CORE BELIEFS We believe all students should have access to meals that will furnish the nourishment required for optimal growth, development, and academic success. We believe open lines of communication should be maintained between Food and Nutrition Services, students, parents, staff, and community. We believe financial responsibility should continue to be practiced by Food and Nutrition Services. We believe Food and Nutrition Services should provide and support professional training opportunities in order to maintain a well-trained, highly motivated staff. We believe in providing a fun and exciting, safe and secure environment in modern, well-maintained facilities. We believe all decisions should be based on the best interest of the students of our district. We believe G-PISD Food and Nutrition Services is one of the top programs in the state of Texas. ABOUT US The Nutrition Services Department is one of the largest support services departments in the District with over 85 employees. Our staff prepares and serves over 8,000 breakfasts and lunches daily, a total of about 1.5 million meals per year, at all our campuses. The Nutrition Services Department operates under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program. These programs are administered by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) at the state level. All of our food and beverages served meet strict federal guidelines from the USDA and TDA. We are self-funded and do not receive funds from local property taxes. We receive federal reimbursement and earn revenue to pay for all of our departmental expenses. We ARE Wildcat Cafe!
