Charged Meals Policy

Charging is not encouraged by Gregory-Portland ISD but on those rare occasions that your child will not have money, we have a charge limit set for each school. If your child exceeds this limit, they will be offered an alternate meal consisting of a cheese sandwich and milk. Please ensure your child has enough money to eat by utilizing Lunch Money Now or paying at any of our schools. Only reimbursable meals can be charged, all other A-La-Carte or extra items cannot be charged. There is also no charging for snack bar items. Charge limits are a courtesy provided by Wildcat Café and is not required by G-P ISD, the Texas Department of Agriculture or the United States Department of Agriculture. National School Lunch Program

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is a federally assisted meal program operating in public and nonprofit private schools and residential child care institutions. It provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to children each school day. The program was established under the National School Lunch Act, signed by President Harry Truman in 1946. Nutritional Requirements School lunches must meet the applicable recommendations of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which recommend that no more than 30 percent of calories come from fat and less than 10 percent from saturated fat. Regulations also establish a standard for school lunches to provide one-third of the Recommended Dietary Allowances of protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, calcium and calories. School lunches must meet federal requirements, but decisions about specific foods to serve and their preparation are made locally. |
