Volunteer

The following programs and services are provided to W.C. Andrews by volunteers who serve this school and the PTA. Please consider serving as a volunteer for one or more of the following:

*School Spirit Day Activities:

Each Friday is Spirit Day at W.C.A.!!! This PTA activity encourages school pride and unity among our students, teachers, and staff. Each Friday, students wear either: a W.C.A. spirit shirt, a G-P spirit shirt, a solid red or a solid blue shirt. A class count is taken and the one class in each grade level with the highest percentage of students showing their dolphin pride by wearing a spirit shirt wins the Spirit Stick for the week as well as a class popcorn party!!!!! Volunteers are needed to collect class shirt counts, make and distribute popcorn, and present the spirit stick to each winning class while cheering "we have spirit, yes we do!!" *Accelerated Reader Program:

The PTA assists the teachers/staff with the AR Program which encourages continual reading progress for all students. This Program is designed to promote student interest in reading and facilitates a progression in reading skill level by the students from lower to higher level reading as students continue participation in the program. PTA volunteers assist with this program by reading/administering computerized test questions to kindergarten and some 1st grade students, providing incentive prizes to students for reaching different point levels in the program, and by providing an awards assembly at the end of the school year for all AR participants. *Fundraising:

The PTA hosts various fundraising activities during the school year. The funds raised by these activities are used to cover PTA costs for the programs it provides to the school (AR point award prizes, bike rodeo awards, teacher appreciation luncheon/gifts, etc). In addition, the PTA also provides funds to purchase items for the school for use by the teachers/students (athletic/PE equipment, technology equipment, teacher supplies, etc.) Fundraisers the PTA will host this year include: t-shirt sales, garbage bag/reusable bag sales, Storybook Parade photos, Santa photos, Holiday Shop, PTA program DVDs, and a yearbook. *Yearbook:

Calling all photographers! The PTA is working with the Yearbook Club to produce a yearbook. Volunteers will also be needed to assist with the distribution of the yearbook orders. To volunteer or get more information, please contact the PTA at WCAPTATX@gmail.com. 

*Teacher Appreciation

The PTA organizes several lunches throughout the year including Teacher Appreciation week in the month of May. To volunteer or get more information, please contact the PTA at WCAPTATX@gmail.com.

*Storybook Character Parade Photographs:

The PTA photographs students who participate in the Storybook Character Parade. This year, the event is scheduled for October 31, 2014. Volunteers are needed to set up the backdrop for the photos, assist with coordinating students' photographs and with distribution of the photograph orders. *Bike Rodeo:

Each year a bike rodeo is put on at W.C.A. to promote bicycle safety among its students and families. Volunteers assist by judging student's skills at each of the different stations in the bike rodeo course. Each student earns a score for his/her skill in the bike rodeo. A first, second, and third place medal is awarded for the top point earner in each grade level. All students who participate in the bike rodeo will receive a Participation Ribbon. All bike rodeo participants are entered into a raffle to win bicycle accessories/equipment. All ribbons, medals, and raffle items as well as volunteers are provided by PTA. *Room Moms/Volunteers:

Room Moms and school volunteers provide a vital role at W.C.A. Room moms and school volunteers make the whole year fun for the kids by planning & organizing the various class parties. In addition, room moms/volunteers provide an invaluable service to the teachers by assisting them with arts & crafts for Grandparent's Day, chaperoning class trips, assisting with school picture days and by making die cuts, using the copy machine, and laminating items in the Volunteer Workroom.
