SFA Running Club
SFA RUNNING CLUB MISSION
To provide each athlete the opportunity to reach his or her full potential by both developing athletic speed, endurance, and strength and fostering high self esteem, personal accountability, self discipline, goal setting, and goal achievement.
Criteria to Become a Running Club Member
- 4th or 5th grade student
- A good role model
- Demonstrate leadership qualities
- Maintain good citizenship grades (S in citizenship, no office referrals)
- Maintain grades of A’s and B’s
- Maintain good attendance (few absences and tardies)
- Be available after school two times per week to attend practices
ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS
Members in the running club have the opportunity to participate in 5K road races throughout the school year. During the school year, running club members practice two times per week, write participation goals, track their times and race progress, and volunteer in the G-P community.
COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS
The city of Portland offers the "Portland Proud" Volunteer Program that provides opportunities for SFA Kittens to participate in civic volunteer programs and projects. Locations where students will be encourage to volunteer include Portland Parks and Recreation and Portland Public Safety. Volunteer opportunities vary and are based on group availability.
