COVID-19: Case Counts, Communication Protocols & Report Form

Report Form for Students & Staff

Communication Protocol

Consistent with school notification requirements for other communicable diseases, and consistent with legal confidentiality requirements, Gregory-Portland ISD will post the daily count(s) of any and all confirmed positive COVID-19 case(s) on the district website (see below) among students, teachers or staff who participate in any on-campus activities. G-PISD is committed to transparency during the COVID-19 pandemic, however it does take time to ascertain facts and details of a reported case including verification of any case(s) being confirmed positive. We will post COVID counts once daily during regular business/school days.

G-PISD will employ a two-step notification process as outlined below for the 2021-22 (effective as of August 4, 2021):

  • Step 1 - DISTRICT NOTICE(s) – Upon confirmation of a confirmed positive COVID-19 case, information will be posted daily and accessible on this web page (www.g-pisd.org/COVIDcounts), and a monthly communication in a summary report will be released district-wide to all parents/families and staff. (Monthly notification will be released via email, phone and Remind text messaging.)
  • Step 2 - INDIVIDUAL NOTICE TO QUARANTINE / REPORTING TO SAN PAT COUNTY HEALTH DEPT.  – Upon confirmation of positive confirmed COVID-19 case, the District will notify the San Patricio County Health Department (SPCHD) as required by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Those specific individuals will receive communication from the District, as approved by the county health dept., notifying them of specific action steps including a required period of quarantine. To comply with current TEA policy/state law, G-PISD will not perform contact tracing during the 2021-22 school year as that is a specific action reserved for the local county health department as determined necessary. (However, in the event that the county health department contacts the district to obtain necessary information for contact tracing and/or requests support, the district is able and willing to comply under current law.)

The information in the chart below contains historical data based on reports received by the district to date for the 2021-22 school year. Gregory-Portland ISD relies on the San Patricio County Health Department as well as our staff, students/parents/families, and community members to proactively report information for the health and safety of all employees and students. If you have information regarding a confirmed positive case of COVID-19, please CLICK HERE to complete and submit the appropriate form. Information about individual(s) will be kept confidential.

Based on guidance from the San Patricio County Health Dept., the district will only notify when a confirmed positive COVID-19 case is received/verified. (Any individuals who may be contacted as determined by health department to quarantine as a precautionary measure due to close contact will not be included in the COVID counts chart seen above.)

*PCR versus Antigen Testing: Per county health officials during the last (2020-21) school year, some tests were reported to not yield true results during the initial onset of COVID-19 ("antigen" tests), and only a certain type of test was considered lab-confirmed (PCR tests). During the 2021-22 school year, G-PISD will report all confirmed positive cases collectively regardless of the type of test that may have been administered by a physician. The district will no longer designate whether a confirmed positive case was determined by PCR or antigen, but rather will report all confirmed positive cases in the chart above and in monthly notifications.
