G-P Finishes With 1st Place Sweepstakes

G-P FINISHES REGULAR TOURNAMENT SEASON WITH A FIRST PLACE SWEEPSTAKES & ADDS FINAL STATE QUAL AT JOHNSON TFA!

Seventeen Gregory-Portland speech and debate students had a strong showing this past Saturday at the Claudia Taylor Johnson High School TFA tournament where they beat 38 others schools to bring home first place sweepstakes. Sophomores Shelby Smith and Micah Wolfe earned GP's final qualification of the TFA season. This brings our total to 22, which is just shy of being in the top ten high school in the state of Texas. Caleb Dykehouse - State Swimming

GP Swim News, By the numbers 2-19-18

GP was proudly represented by Caleb Dykehouse. He placed 20th in the 50 free with a time of 22.31 and 17th in the 100 free with a time 48.07. He brought his team together by displaying what it means to strive for excellence throughout the season. Caleb has the heart and character of a true champion.

Academic & CTE Showcase - Thursday, Feb. 22nd

G-P High School is hosting an Academic and CTE (Career & Technology Education) Showcase on campus Thursday, February 22, 2018, at 6 p.m. This opportunity is being provided for parents/guardians and students to tour program facilities, visit with instructors (including those from Del Mar College), and gain an understanding of the High School Endorsement choices available to students annually in G-PISD. Battle of the Bay - Tennis Tournament

Our Varsity played in the Battle of the Bay Tournament this past weekend and finished 8th Overall out of 16 schools from San Antonio, Houston, the Valley, and locally.

Megan Dodson made it to the finals of a competitive Girls Singles draw of 32. She came away with 2nd place, while teammate Caroline Miller placed 12th.

Mason Gillespie made it to the semifinals of Boys Singles before losing to the eventual tournament winner. He then won the 3rd place match.

Xavier Valverde and Michael Hogan placed 7th in Boys Doubles.

Cara Sutter and Holden Biediger placed 8th in Mixed Doubles.

VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event) - 3 Advance to State

This weekend a handful of our art students traveled to Tuloso-Midway HS to compete in the annual VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event) competition.

428 Art pieces were collectively submitted among 18 high schools and 36 out of those 428 were selected to advance to state.

I am pleased to say that 3 out of our 8 submissions have been selected.
