What is the Senior Awards Ceremony?
Each year our graduating seniors who have earned scholarships and/or are being awarded by G-P High School with a significant honor are recognized during the Senior Awards Ceremony. In years past, this event was held by invitation only during the school day, given the limited space available in the Charlotte Brown Performing Arts Center.
For this year, the ceremony will be held in the evening to allow ample space/seating for families/attendees and also to ensure most families will be able to attend if desired after the regular work day. We will continue the practice of recognizing only those seniors who are earning honors and/or scholarships, and using the link above families or staff can submit information for any senior recognition before the deadline listed.
Senior Awards to be presented include:
- Top 10 Recognition
- Academic Achievement
- Scholarships
- NHS Collars & Cords
- "Who's Who" as elected by G-PHS Teachers
Helpful Event Info:
- Senior award submissions MUST be entered using the link above by Monday, May 8, 2023. This is a requirement for planning purposes, and the deadline is solid.
- All invitations will be hand-delivered to students and emailed out to families listed in Skyward prior to the RSVP deadline.
- Doors will open by 5:30 p.m. for all participants and attendees.
- Award recipients (seniors) should arrive on site no later than 5:30 p.m. to find their seat and be in place by 5:45 p.m.
- No tickets are required for the audience.
- Student and speaker/presenter attire is "Sunday Best" -- similar to graduation, and aligned with G-PISD dress code.
- Attendee attire is suggested similar to students and participants, as may be desired.
Senior Walk
SENIOR WALK @ G-P ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
ATTENDANCE / PARTICIPATION: | There is no RSVP required for this event. Seniors will have the opportunity to board the appropriate bus to attend, at their choosing on the day of this event. |
EVENT DATE & INFO: | May 22, 2023 @ 8:30 a.m. | Buses load at this time at G-P High School. |
What is a Senior Walk?
G-P High School collaborates with our G-PISD elementary schools to offer seniors the chance to walk the halls of their former elementary campus in full cap and gown with regalia. Our youngest students line the hallways to cheer on our graduating seniors. Inspiration goes both ways -- from our young and aspiring Wildcats who look up to our seniors and from our incredible seniors who offer a source of joy, pride, and desire from among the littlest of G-P learners. This is an invitation-only event held during the school day.
Helpful Event Info:
- G-PISD buses will transport the senior class to a G-PISD elementary school along the schedule provided during the regular school day.
- Each elementary campus -- East Cliff, S.F. Austin, T.M. Clark, and W.C. Andrews -- will be among the destinations a senior can choose to attend.
- Buses will begin loading at 8:30 a.m. on the day of this event.
Senior Sunset
SENIOR SUNSET
SENIOR PARTICIPATION: | Optional for the Senior Class, no RSVP required. This event is a chance to watch the sunset together while reviewing some reflections our seniors wrote during the Senior Sunrise at the beginning of the year. |
EVENT DATE & INFO: | May 22, 2023 @ 7:45 p.m. | Ray Akins Wildcat Stadium |
What is a "Senior Sunset" event?
Our Student Council (STUCO) is hosting this opportunity for the Class of 2023 to watch the sunset together and spend some time reflecting on the year they have experienced as seniors. This event is the culmination of a prior event -- Senior Sunrise -- in which our seniors came together earlier this year to watch the sun rise and write their own reflections. At the sunset, they will review what they had written and enjoy this memorable opportunity together.
Helpful Event Info:
- This is a senior-only event, and seniors may participate as desired. There is no requirement to attend; completely optional.
- If you have questions, please contact Student Council.

FAQ
Q: What visitation and participation will be allowed for parents and other guests that would like to watch the senior walk at the elementary campuses?
A: Each campus will have their own senior walk layout. It is best to contact that elementary campus to inquire about this.
Q: May students decorate their graduation caps?
A: No, decorated caps during the graduation ceremony are not permitted. All regalia for the commencement ceremony should be school issued/approved.
Q: How do I submit my student's acceptance into a US military branch (and subsequent scholarship)?
A: Use the submission link on this senior information page in the Senior Awards Ceremony section. On numbers 3 and 4 in the submission form, you will type in the name of the military branch and on number 5 (for the total amount) you can put unknown. We will get a list of amounts from the military branches to verify everyone before the actual ceremony.
Q: Will audience members be allowed to use confetti canons and noise makers at the ceremonies?
A: No, we ask that, out of respect for all attendees, maintenance/custodial department, and the city of Portland, loud noisemakers or items that would be scattered and require additional cleanup are not used in the celebration.
Q: Are Eagle Scout cords considered part of school-related regalia.
A: Yes, if your senior has earned the Eagle Scout cord, this cord will be announced at the awards ceremony and will be worn at graduation. Please make sure to submit the award of this cord in the link for award/scholarship submissions in the Senior Awards section of this webpage.
