Construction Updates
MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOL
Gregory-Portland High School was originally built in the year 2000. As with any facility, time, growth, and changing program needs eventually impact how a campus must adapt. Over the past several years, the district has worked hard to ensure our high school remains a place where students can learn, grow, and thrive.
This year, district enrollment has risen to over 5,100 students, with more than 1,500 attending the high school—approximately 30% of G-PISD’s total enrollment. We know that construction can bring challenges, especially while school is in session. That’s why the district has intentionally phased work in a way that limits disruptions to instruction while still moving forward with much-needed improvements. At the same time, we have remained focused on safety—securing all construction areas and ensuring only approved and vetted workers have access to job sites. We are deeply thankful for the continued support of our community. These projects are made possible through voter-approved school bonds, and the results reflect the pride and commitment of Gregory-Portland families.
Since 2020, the district has completed a series of major improvements at Gregory-Portland High School. These projects are now fully operational and benefiting students daily:
- Dr. Paul Clore Career & Technical Education Center – Expanded opportunities for career pathways.
- Agriscience Facility, Project Center, and Greenhouse – Modernized spaces for agricultural education and hands-on learning.
- Classroom Additions – Additional instructional space to support student growth.
- Front Entrance & Canopy Upgrades – Improved safety and accessibility for students and visitors.
- Perimeter Fencing Project – Enhanced campus security.
- HVAC Improvements – More reliable systems for comfort and efficiency.
- Gymnasium Renovations – Updated spaces for athletics, physical education, and student gatherings.
- Wildcat Park – New Baseball & Softball Stadiums.
- All-Purpose Facility & George W. Harris Fieldhouse – Multi-functional space supporting academics, athletics, and extra-curricular programs.
PROJECTS IN PROGRESS
Construction is underway on the following projects, with completion scheduled for Summer 2026. These spaces are projected to open in time for the 2026-2027 school year:
- Cafeteria Additions & Renovations – Expanding and modernizing dining facilities.
- Fine Arts Classroom Renovations – Upgraded instructional space for performing arts programming.
- New Band Hall – A state-of-the-art home for our band program.
PROJECTS IN THE DESIGN PHASE (BOND 2025)
The most recent voter-approved bond in May 2025 includes additional projects currently in the design phase. District leaders, campus staff, architects, and committees are working together to create spaces aligned with our vision and community values. These projects will begin construction in the coming months:
- Gym Locker Room Renovations – Modernized spaces for athletics and student health.
- Welding Shop – Expanded facilities for technical training and workforce readiness.
- General Classroom, Library, & Common Area Renovations – Updated academic spaces for flexible, collaborative learning.
- Visual & Performing Arts / CTE Facility – A transformational space combining fine arts and technical education.
- Parking Lot Upgrades & Improvements – Improved traffic flow, safety, and accessibility.
These projects have varying estimated completion dates, ranging from Summer 2026 through 2028, as the district carefully analyzes how best to phase them in given the significant amount of ongoing construction. For example, based on consultation with the architectural firm, the Visual & Performing Arts / CTE Facility has an estimated construction timeline of July 2026 – July 2028, with the goal of being fully operational for the 2028-2029 school year.
