COVID-19: Case Counts, Communication Protocols & Report Form

Report Form for Students & Staff

Communication Protocol

Consistent with school notification requirements for other communicable diseases, and consistent with legal confidentiality requirements, Gregory-Portland ISD will notify all teachers, staff, and families of all students in a school if a lab-confirmed OR possible COVID-19 case is identified among students, teachers or staff who participate in any on-campus activities. G-PISD is committed to transparency as we communicate during the COVID-19 pandemic, however it does take time to ascertain facts and details of a reported case when we learn about it, and we ask for your patience as we work to first take care of the individuals who test positive and anyone in which they may have come into close contact.

G-PISD will employ a three-tiered notification process as outlined below (as of Sept. 8th):

  • Tier 1 - DISTRICT NOTICE(s) – Upon confirmation of a lab-confirmed OR possible COVID-19 case, communication will be sent out to all teachers, staff, and families of students who are assigned to a campus/facility from the District (where the individual may have reported). This includes families of students who have elected Remote Learning in addition to those who are attending In-Person Learning.
  • Tier 2 - CAMPUS / CLASS NOTICE(s) – Upon confirmation of a lab-confirmed OR possible COVID-19 case, communication will be sent out to all teachers, staff, and families of students, who are enrolled in any class or activity with the individual who has the lab-confirmed or possible COVID-19 case from Campus COVID Designee. Teachers, staff and students sharing a room with the lab-confirmed or possible case may meet the definition of having close contact with the case. Those receiving this notification will be required to monitor themselves and if they begin to have any COVID-19 symptoms (or are directed to do so by the district due to safety protocol) they will need to self-quarantine and/or contact their campus.
  • Tier 3 - INVESTIGATION / SAN PAT COUNTY HEALTH DEPT. – Upon confirmation of a lab-confirmed OR possible COVID-19 case, the Campus COVID Designee will begin an investigation. IF the results of this investigation provide that close contact was confirmed with any teachers, staff, or students, the District will notify the San Patricio County Health Department (SPCHD). Those specific individuals will receive communication requiring them to quarantine from either SPCHD or in time sensitive cases from G-PISD.

In addition to the 3-Tiered notification process, G-PISD will begin providing the public with notice of the confirmed or possible positive COVID-19 cases among staff and/or students as of Sept. 8th, 2020. Cases will be communicated via Remind 101 and/or email, and the G-PISD website when the District is notified of lab-confirmed or possible COVID-19 cases. Please refer to the information in the table below regarding the current status of lab-confirmed or possible cases.

The information in the chart below contains historical data based on reports received by the district since July 13, 2020. Gregory-Portland ISD relies on the San Patricio County Health Department as well as our staff, students/parents/families, and community members to proactively report information for the health and safety of all employees and students. If you have information regarding a lab-confirmed or possible* case of COVID-19, please CLICK HERE to complete and submit the appropriate form. Information about individual(s) will be kept confidential.

Based on guidance from the San Patricio County Health Dept., the district will NOT notify the public of quarantine cases (for example, related to contact tracing) and will only notify when a lab-confirmed COVID-19 positive case is received/verified.

*Obtaining Lab-Confirmed or Possible Results - PCR versus Antigen Testing: Not all testing provided at local medical facilities are those that generate official, lab-confirmed data. Per county health officials, some tests (for example, "antigen" tests) do not yield true results that would be verifiable as 'lab-confirmed.' Please discuss testing options thoroughly with your physician(s) and request a form of testing that is approved by the health department for verifiable results. Data shown with an asterisk(*) next to the total(s) above are those in which at least one (1) individual received only an antigen test, which yields only possible -- not lab-confirmed -- results. Thank you!
