Our goal is to provide between 4-5 hours of daily, rigorous, on grade-level instruction & assignments for every student that will continue to move them towards their academic goals. There is no expectation that this be completed during the regular school day, however that is when the majority of supports will be available to the student.

High school & Middle school students will receive daily "lesson guides" from their various teachers in each of their subjects. They will be posted daily in our e-Learning Lesson Library.

Elementary students will be assigned a weekly "choice board" which contains a series of activities and lessons designed for your student from which they can choose a designated number of activities/assignments to complete. They will be posted weekly in our e-Learning Lesson Library.

Student attendance will be demonstrated by the submission of completed work per the teachers instructions. Teachers will be actively communicating with students throughout the week. Teachers will host virtual office hours (to be posted), and will be generally available during the operational day to respond to questions and provide guidance.

Questions submitted by 3:00 pm should be responded to that day. There is more information on how to contact your teachers in a later question. If you are not receiving a response, please notify your campus' administrator.

All campuses have made plans to offer alternative paper-based assignments as an option for any "non-connected" students. These assignments at times will mirror the work being done by students online. Sometimes it may be different, but equal in student learning opportunity. Our goal is to ensure ALL students have equitable access to instruction that will continue to move them forward.

There a number of ways to reach out to your teachers. All of our teachers have been setup in the Remind app. This is a great way to contact teachers securely via voice or text. You may also email teachers, or you may "stop-in" for their virtual office hours via Zoom. Teachers will include contact information and how/when to best reach them in their lesson guides & choice boards. If you are having trouble contacting your teacher, please contact your campus administration so they may assist in helping establish the connection.

Teachers will have assigned work that is to be collected and graded. These assignments will be given a 'due date' with the understanding that there will be challenges at times to meet such an expectation. That is okay! Please communicate directly with your teachers regarding the need for flexibility or alternative times to submit.

The preferred method to collect work is electronically. If a student is participating online, there will be numerous methods available for students to submit and teachers to collect work. For paper-based assignments, we will have a few options:

1. Take pictures of the student's work and submit to your teachers via TEAMS, Remind, email etc.
2. Each campus will facilitate a drop-off procedure along with the pick-up.

NOTE: All dropped-off assignments will be quarantined for 72 hours before providing them to the teacher for grading and feedback. This will cause a delay in the time to receive feedback and grade.

Students may be expected to use a small variety of software tools to make remote learning easier. The majority of these tools students have experience using. At times, they may be asked to explore new tools, or new functions within the software.

There are 5 primary applications used district-wide through which we will provide instructional support and services to students:

3. Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
4. Clever

There may be additional programs used by various teachers in different grade levels and subject areas, and those will be supported directly by teachers and our support staff.

We have created or collected training videos and instructional guides on the 5 programs above to help you and your student use them successfully.

For elementary students in grades K-2, teachers will work to provide parents with "badges" (QR Code) to ease access and provide the student's username and password. This will help you and your students log in to various applications. Your student is familiar with using these to login.

Teachers and support staff are on-hand to assist you and your student using any of the software applications assigned. For technical assistance, please complete our online form.

Online/home instruction will include accommodations and modifications as related to your student’s current needs. These will be provided by the teachers or in class support staff as they would during traditional classroom instruction. Your student’s teacher or case manager will be contacting you this week and communicating via Remind app, telephone or email to check on student progress and offer assistance as needed. In addition, dyslexia and special education staff, including speech therapists, will provide support through videos, Zoom or TEAMS for individual students or small groups for those who are able to access these supports. These services will be provided to the extent possible while modified operations continue and will be commensurate with the online/home instructional day.

Related Services: (for students with these services specified in their IEP)

• Counseling and/or Psychological Services will be provided via Zoom, Teams or telephone to each student who has this service in their IEP. These providers will be in contact with you to determine the best mode of communication.
• Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Vision Service providers will contact you to determine the best way to meet the needs of your student during online/home instruction.

• STAAR (including STAAR Alt) for grades 3-8 and End of Course testing requirements for the 2019-2020 school year have been CANCELLED.

• Optional TELPAS testing – testing window has been expanded to May 29, 2020.

• TSI (Texas Success Initiative) was cancelled for March – Remote Testing has been created for future opportunities if needed.

• AP is offering at-home exams. The at-home exam can be completed on any device that has internet (including smartphones). There will be 2 different testing dates. AP teachers will be able to assist students with setting up for the test. Information about the reduced scope of content that will be covered on each 2020 AP Exam is currently posted on AP Central to assist students. Beginning on Wednesday, March 25, students and schools will have access to free, live AP review lessons, delivered by AP teachers from across the country. The lessons will focus on reviewing the skills and concepts from the first 75% of the course.

• SAT and ACT have cancelled the April and May testing dates. June admin is still scheduled at this time.

• Credit by Exams – CBE testing for May is currently still scheduled.

• NAEP – National Assessment of Educational Progress for Age 17 assessments for the 2019-2020 school year have been suspended.

School Counselors and School Social Workers are working together to prepare resources for families. These resources can be found on our district Support Services webpage and are being updated regularly. Counselors and Social Workers will be available during school hours. Students and parents can email their counselors for assistance or submit an Anonymous Alert for immediate concerns. Fear and anxiety about a disease can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions in adults and children so we are here to provide support.

School counselors will be available to:

• Provide activities to teachers and students to support Social and Emotional Learning and character education
• Provide counseling remotely through phone calls and video-conferencing platforms such as Zoom and Skype
• Reach out to students through Remind, Skype, Zoom and email
• Hold virtual group sessions through Zoom and Skype

Social workers will be available to:

• Contact students on their caseloads remotely through phone calls and visual platforms such as Skype and Zoom
• Hold virtual group sessions through Zoom and Skype
• Provide the Backpack program in conjunction with the Food Bank (email your school counselor to find out more about this program)

1. Limit distraction
   A “digital quarantine” might be necessary to keep your child’s attention focused on their schoolwork. You should limit their use of their devices, other than what is needed to complete their work, until their schoolwork is done. If you choose, you can allow your child to play on a device during a designated break, but make them aware that they only have a limited amount of time until they need to get back to work.
2. Make space for learning
   Many adults have a specific area of the home in which they do work, and it’s important that you create a similar space for your child. Your children will achieve their best work in a quiet, comfortable, and dedicated space that is strictly devoted to learning. This space should be a different set-up than where they normally play games or watch television.
3. Maintain breaks such as snack time and recess
   Routines and schedules are extremely important for children at school, and this is no different in their at-home school. Children will function best if they maintain their routine as close to normal as possible. Setting alarms similar to those they would encounter at school can be helpful for keeping them on a schedule. Around lunch time, encourage them to get up, get some fresh air, go for a walk or bike ride, or have a snack so that they are not sedentary for the entire day.
4. Keep in touch with other parents
   Social distancing is important during this time, but staying in touch with others via virtual communication is very important. Each parent that has at child home is going to be going through a new experience. Check in with other parents to see what they’ve found effective, and ask if they need help as well.
5. Mix screen time with old school learning mediums
   Overuse of screen time can have adverse impacts on young brains, so it’s important to mix it up during a time like this. It’s likely that your children will want to continue to use a screen of some sort during their breaks from doing work, so it’s important to limit screen time by mixing in old school mediums as well. If possible, print out anything you can for your child. Parents should also encourage print and book reading if available. If not, speak with your student's school about your need and if there are options available at that time.
6. Don’t underestimate the power of a schedule
   If you and your children are all doing work from your home, it’s likely that this is the first time that has ever happened. A schedule, for your work and your child’s work, is extremely important. To start, experts recommend keeping them on the same or similar sleeping schedule that they have when they are going into school. You are free to schedule and structure your day as you feel necessary, so help your student write one for not only each day, but each week. Having a clear vision of what is expected of your child will help them see that just because they are home does not mean they don’t have work to do. Experts recommend helping them prioritize and learn to create goals, tasks, and deadlines, just like adults do when they go to work.
7. Allow them to interact with friends via video chats
   Your children are used to lots of social contact at school, so they will definitely feel the effects of being distanced from them even after a few days. While it might not be safe for your kids to see their friends in person, you should allow them to interact with them online, beyond social media or text messaging. Video chats are often the closest thing to seeing someone in person, and are a great way to get in social time without endangering yourself or others. If your child does not regularly video chat with their friends, you can speak with other parents to set up a virtual "play-date." Your teacher may even be able/willing to facilitate if possible using district software. Your student is encouraged to participate during their teacher's virtual office hours as well where they may get to interact with other students.
8. Don’t let your children treat this as a vacation
   This time at home might feel like a vacation for your child, but it’s important to remind them that their education still comes first. Obligations like class assignments, grades, tests, state exams, SATs, and ACTs aren’t going away just because classes have moved online.
9. Remember to schedule time for fun
   While this is most certainly not a vacation, it’s important to have some fun with your children while they are at home. It’s rare that you have this much time with your children, so use it as an opportunity to bond. Experts at Children and Screens recommend organizing a tournament, family card games, charades, or chess, or getting outside for a hike or walk together.

1. Limite la distracción
   Puede ser necesaria una "cuarentena digital" para mantener la atención de su hijo centrada en su trabajo escolar. 2. Haz espacio para aprender
