Commemorative Ceremony & Walk to Remember G-P High School

JOIN US! - Saturday, May 28th @ the Former G-P High School Campus

As communicated by Superintendent Dr. Michelle Cavazos, Gregory-Portland ISD will begin demolition of the former Gregory-Portland High School campus. This building is now vacant since 6th - 8th grade students and staff transitioned to the new G-P Middle School. While the original Shirley Rowe and Brown Gymnasiums were planned for demolition first, to make way for the All-Purpose Practice Facility and Fieldhouse projects, recommendations from site engineers and contractors revealed it would be most cost effective to demolish all buildings at this location at the same time. The district recently conducted a comprehensive facility master planning process, conducted by renown field experts at Cooperative Strategies, and the final recommendation include the demolition of the entire campus because it was found to be in "critical" status on a facility condition index.

The high cost to maintain the aging facility, coupled with the need to make way for potential future projects that could benefit our current students, was considered when this difficult decision was made by the School Board. Plans are underway to preserve the history and integrity of the building and site including memorializing the Wildcat seal on the floor near the front office prior to demolition. The G-P community and all G-PHS alumni are invited to join us for a Commemorative Ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2022, followed by a remembrance walk / tour of the building from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Please view the invitation below, spread the word, and plan to join us to commemorate and remember the former G-P High School!
