In addition, we had 5 students along with 4 alternates that were named "Area Candidates." That means they will go on to the third and final level of competition where they will be auditioning for a spot in the Texas All-State Choir. These students are:

Area Candidates:
Kyla Bassett - ranked #5 of 40 singers
Jordan Bruster - ranked #2 of 30 singers Amanda Elizonda - ranked #3 of 40 singers Carina Libretto - ranked #4 of 40 singers Matthew Rodriguez - ranked #2 of 30 singers

Alternates to Area:
Alexis Bos - ranked #6 of 40 singers
Macie Dry - ranked #6 of 40 singers
Taylor Hardman - ranked #6 of 30 singers Janell Stallard - ranked #7 of 40 singers

3rd at Regionals

****

The boys ran well, improving on a 16th place finish last year. We were 14th overall. Runners for the Wildcats were Evan Sperling, Tony Molina, Austin Hagemann, Isaac Perez, Ryan Morris, and Byron Cohea.

The girls race was, according to the announcer, the closest regional race in state history. The upside was that we had 3 girls in the top 15! They ran super amazing. Carolyn McClanahan was 5th overall with a personal best time of 11:56 and Courtney Langdon was 6th overall in a personal best of 12:00. In 15th place, we had Maeghen Wedgeworth with her personal best time of 12:24. Lindsey Frost was 29th in 12:49, Molly Sarchet was 60th in 13:23, Kat Teinert finished in 13:59, and Ashley Hinojosa finished in 14:58. For team results, you add the places of the top 5 runners on each team. The team with the lowest score wins. The girls finished with a team score of 114. New Braunfels Canyon also had 114, and Boerne Champion finished with 113. So, we were tied for 2nd. Since there was a tie, they go to the 6th runner. We ended up in third (that's the down). Ouch- they were SO close. But-Yeah!!!!- we're going back to state! Believe me- these girls are VERY motivated for the state meet this weekend!

Please congratulate all of the runners on a job well done- I am very proud of them. GO WILDCATS!

****
Carloyn McClanahan lead the race from start to finish, becoming the individual district champion.
Courtney Langdon, Maeghen Wedgeworth, and Lindsey Frost grabbed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
Also competing, were Molly Sarchet (17th), Katherine Teinert, and Monica Ramirez.
The girls finished in 1st place as a team with 27 points.

Our boys really stepped it up and ran with alot of heart. Evan Sperling and Austin Hagemann led the Wildcats with their 7th and 8th place finishes. They completed the 3 mile course in 16:53.

Isaac Perez and freshman Tony Molina also claimed all-district honors. They finished 9th and 10th in 16:57 and 16:48. Toby Foster fought hard to the finish, crossing the line as our fifth runner. Byron Cohea and Ryan Morris also competed for the Wildcats. The boys finished in 2nd place behind Moody.

Congratulations to the Advanced choir students who participated in the TMEA District Choir auditions this past weekend in Calallen. We took 67 singers and 58 made District. 48 students and 11 alternates will advance to the Region Auditions in November. Another pretty exciting fact is that 32 of them ranked in the top ten of their section (many sections had 50-80 singers in them). I'm very proud of their hard work and outstanding accomplishments!!

THAT IS THE GP WAY!!! :-)

College Night

We are having our annual college night tomorrow night
(Thursday, November 20, 2008) from 6-8 in the cafeteria.

I know that we have many activities scheduled tomorrow night but please encourage your students to attend. This is a terrific opportunity to expose our young students to the various colleges that they may attend in the future.

Mrs. Cade also approved the students to wear college t-shirts. I would greatly appreciate it if you would encourage your students (and fellow teachers) to wear their favorite college shirt or jacket.

Congratulations!
